Teenager shot in Wissinoming

An exchange of heated words between a 17-year-old boy and a group of people in a dark SUV sparked a shooting that left the boy with a wounded leg last Thursday, Philadelphia police say.

The victim was walking with two other males along the 2000 block of E. Cheltenham Ave., near Harbison Avenue, shortly after 4 a.m. when he had the verbal altercation with the occupants of an SUV, possibly a dark blue GMC Envoy. Police did not disclose what prompted the argument. Several males and females of unknown age were inside the vehicle. One or more of the motorists fired about a half-dozen shots at the victim. One of the bullets struck the 17-year-old in the thigh.

The SUV was last seen traveling westbound on Cheltenham Avenue from the scene.

Paramedics took the victim to St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children, where he was admitted in stable condition.
